    Hello good people,

Couple of film events to tell you about this month (including a screening of my beloved), two new podcasts, and a social media roundup. Hope you like.

    Science Fiction Theatre // April
We're back at The Victoria on Monday 17th April with a special 25th anniversary screening of Alien 3: Assembly Cut (1992), the definitive version of David Fincher’s misunderstood masterpiece.

Lt. Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is the lone survivor when her crippled spaceship crash-lands on Fiorina 161, a bleak wasteland inhabited by former inmates of the planet’s maximum security prison. Ripley’s fears that an Alien was aboard her craft are confirmed when the mutilated bodies of ex-cons begin to mount. Without weapons or modern technology of any kind, Ripley must lead the men into battle against the terrifying creature…

The film will be preceded by a talk from, er, me. This one is particularly close to my heart, so it seems fitting to put myself front and centre and explain just what on earth I’m doing with my life. I'll be chatting about the differences between the theatrical version and assembly cut, the infamous production problems the film faced, and how much I love it (and why you should love it too).

It’s going to be super, I promise. Brilliant film, and me with a massive smile on my face throughout. A rare treat. Tickets // here.

The poster for this month's event was designed by Oskars Pavlovskis. If you missed the reveal on social media last week, check out this badboy:

Been waiting a long time to commission an Alien poster and we were not disappointed. Oskars portfolio is incredible, both bizarre and beautiful. Be sure to follow him on instagram (@pavlovskis_oskars) and check out his website. We'll be giving out postcards of the design to everyone who attends the event, and A3 prints are available to buy from the shop.

    Science Fiction Theatre // May
In May we're screening Ken Russell's reality-warping classic Altered States (1980), and for this we’ll be at The Institute of Light in London Fields, a new collaborative space that’s part record shop, part café, part bookshop, and most importantly for us, part repertory cinema. We’re incredibly excited about putting on an event there.

Full details next month. For now though, the facebook event is live so sign up to mark it in your calendar and get updates, and tickets are available to buy // here.

    Science Fiction Theatre // Survey
If you’ve attended any SFT event this year we’d really appreciate your feedback – what you liked, what you didn’t like, how you heard about us, etc. To that end we’ve set up a very brief online survey for you to fill out. Answers are anonymous, and your input will help us improve our future screenings.

    Science Fiction Theatre // Podcast
If you missed March’s event, Dr Caroline Brennan's brilliant introductory talk on zebrafish genetics and the insight fish can give us into the neural basis of addiction is now available as a podcast.

As is episode 34, which is dedicated to A Scanner Darkly. We discuss my infatuation with Philip K. Dick, the film’s difficult production, its legacy, some of our favourite moments, and why it was chosen to be screened it at the film club.

You can stream all of our podcasts via the website and/or mixcloud, or you can subscribe via itunes. If you like what we're doing, please review/share, and get involved - tweet at me (@scifitheatre) or Dan (@HYPHYHUNTLEY) with your views on any of the films discussed.
