Timescoop by John Brunner

John Brunner is a versatile writer of immense range. One of his best-known novels, Stand on Zanzibar, a searing and horrifying glimpse of life in the overcrowded future, is required reading in many American colleges.

Here, in this light-hearted and witty story, he shows us the other side of the coin. The Timescoop project has been developed by the scientists of Freitas Interplanetary, of which Harold Freitas III is president. It is a device for snatching objects - or people - out of history. In order to demonstrate the dramatic implications of the discovery, Harold decides to hold a family reunion of all his distinguished ancestors. With a vast fanfare of publicity, the reunion will also be attended by everybody who is anybody. And where else can you stage such a dramatic affair but the Grand Canyon?

Unfortunately Harold's revered ancestors have some rather peculiar habits...and the party to end all parties boils up to an hilarious climax.
